Platanus leaf fossil from the Miocene of Mississippi
In the fall of 2014, I helped find a really cool plant fossil site outside of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. After several years of research we've put our thoughts here: https://palaeo-electronica.org/content/2019/2540-miocene-plants-of-mississippi. Rest in peace Dr. Axsmith. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Axsmith

For the journal JBRIT about the aquatic Blyxa aubertii
In my haste as a young botanist, I declared that this was a "new record" for Mississippi even though it had already been documented by the late Dr. Jean Wooten, whom you can read more about here: https://www.usm.edu/biological-environmental-earth-sciences/herbarium-about-us.php
